The complex interaction of the requirements with partially contradictory goals leads to complex structural details and often to a full utilisation of the static load-bearing capacity of masonry. A typical detail results from the increased requirements of thermal insulation for the slab support on monolithic load-bearing clay brick masonry walls.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-803 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cwe.rwth-aachen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/arge_mauerziegel.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"567\" height=\"315\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">[Arge Mauerziegel e.V. 2012]<\/p>\n<p>A sufficient insulation can only be achieved by the installation of a frontal insulation on the slab, which leads to a substantial reduction of the support length for the slab. The reduced support length results in increased rotations of the slab generating clamping moments and localised stresses at the top of the wall, which, however, has so far been completely ignored in construction practice. Furthermore, it is well known that the resulting wall imperfections due to the eccentric load transfer reduce substantially the buckling resistance of the wall.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of the project is the detailed investigation of the effect of eccentric vertical loads at the wall-slab joint on the shear resistance of unreinforced masonry walls made of clay brick by experimental and computational investigations and to close the existing knowledge deficit. As an essential result for building practice, comprehensible calculation and design approaches are derived from the investigations, with which the effects of eccentric load introduction can be taken into account. The application of these new approaches will be demonstrated with specific practical examples in order to successfully transfer the results into practice. The intended project results support the monolithic construction method, which is significantly more economical and sustainable than other construction methods.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1127 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cwe.rwth-aachen.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Logos-gesamt.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"949\" height=\"246\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The IGF project \u201cImpact of eccentric axial loading at the wall-slab-joint on the shear resistance of monolithic load-bearing clay brick masonry walls\u201d, IGF Project No. 19406 N, Forschungsgemeinschaft Ziegelindustrie e.V.
